Dr Pulikkottil Geevarghese Mar Yulios, Metropolitan of Ahmedabad Diocese and President of Mar Gregorios Memorial Higher Secondary School (MGMHSS), consecrated a new block of the school on July 22, 2012, Sunday.
The MGM School is one among the 26 institutions run by the Diocese of Kolkata of the Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church of India. The MGM school in Indore has been added to the newly formed Diocese of Ahmedabad under Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios, since Ahmedabad Diocese was earlier functioning under Kolkata Diocese.
Missionary and visionary of the Church Late Lamented HG Dr Stephanos Mar Thedosius (1924-2007), is the founder President of the MGM schools.
The schools are named after Geevarghese Mar Gregorios or popularly known as Parumala Thirumeni. Mar Gregorios is the greatest saint the Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church has given birth to and the only canonized saint in the Church. Apart from honing the skills or intellects of young minds, MGM has been instrumental in training the Gregorian’s to be confident human beings.
Last week, Dr Mar Yulios consecrated a new block for the Indore school. The school under the new management is presently witnessing tremendous growth and became a higher secondary school from the present academic year (2012-13) onwards. The local management under Rev Fr Saju Padachira as Vice President, is doing an excellent work for the development of the school which serves over 1,000 students from the community.
Fr Saju Padachira was earlier Vicar of St Stephen’s Orthodox Church, Salalah, Sultanate of Oman.
Earlier, Dr Mar Yulios led the Holy Eucharist at the St Mary’s Orthodox Church, at Khajrana, Indore.
Advocate Mathai Mampallil, Managing Committee member of the Church from the Diocese of Ahmedabad, who also serves as the Director of Educational Institutions, was also present during the occasion. Dr Mar Yulios and Adv Mathai together visited the schools in the area.
