Today was a long day: We waited two hours in line to get our UN passes, went for a quick lunch, took the subway all the way across town to get to the Bible study at “the box of God” then came back to the hotel and spent the evening preparing the first ecumenical women worship service on Monday morning.
It was really tiring but also very inspiring to be among this group of young educated women who are working hard to make the voice of unnamed women heard.
“If peace was defined as an absence of violence against women, no country would be considered peaceful”. It’s these simple , yet powerful words, that marked me today. Our WSCF delegation met with other groups of young adults for a contextual Bible study.
It’s during this meeting that I heard this important statement and it made me realize, that despite the fact that the women we met with came from various places and were very different, we were all the same when it came to the issue of violence and women’s rights. We are all aware of the issues women are facing, all we need to do is get the message through at the CSW to make an impact then work on the implementation of the change. The change is in our hands, at the “grass roots” level, and that is a big responsibility. These coming two weeks will only be the beginning of our journey of advocacy for women’s rights and I hope I’ll live up to my duties.

تشاركنا الأخت رنا شمندي وهي عضو في حركة الشبيبة الأرثوذكسيّة في لبنان ومندوبة الاتحاد العالميّ المسيحيّ للطّلبة تجربتها في 3 مارس 2013.
وتحكي لنا. يومنا هذا كان طويلاً جدّاً فقد انتظرنا ساعتين في الصفّ للحصول على إذن الأمم المتحدة للمرور وبعد ذلك ذهبنا لتناول وجبة غداء سريعة واستقلّينا مترو الأنفاق على طول طريق المدينة للوصول إلى جلسة دراسة الكتاب المقدس في “صندوق الله” (the box of God) ثمّ عدنا إلى الفندق وقضينا ليلتنا بإعداد أوّل ورشة خدمة العبادة المسكونيّة للنساء لصباح يوم الاثنين. إنّه لنهار متعب حقّا ولكنّه في آن معاً شديد الإلهام أن أكون عضواً في هذه المجموعة من النساء الشابات المتعلمات اللواتي يعملن بجدٍّ لجعل صوت أيّ امرأة كانت مسموعاً.
“إذا ما عرّفنا السّلام بأنّه غياب العنف ضد المرأة فإذاً لا يمكننا اعتبار أيّ بلد مسالم”. هذه هي الكلمات التي ببساطتها وقوتّـها أثّرت فيّ اليوم. وقد التقى وفد الاتحاد العالميّ المسيحيّ للطّلبة الخاصّ بنا بمجموعات أخرى من الشباب لدراسة سياقيّة للكتاب المقدس.
وقد تطرّق هذا الكلام إلى مسامعي خلال اللقاء وجعلني أُدرك بأنّه على الرّغم من واقع أنّ النساء اللواتي أتين هنّ من كلّ حدب وصوب وتختلف كلّ واحدة منهنّ عن الأخرى وعلى الرغم من اختلافاتنا فقد توافقنا جميعاً على مسألة العنف ضدّ المرأة وحقوقها. كنّا جميعاً على بيّنة من القضايا التي تواجهها المرأة وكلّ ما علينا القيام به هو فهم هذه الرّسالة من خلال لجنة وضع المرأة بغية أن يكون لهذه الرّسالة تأثير مهمّ ومن ثمّ العمل على تطبيق التغيير. التغيير رهن أيدينا وهو على مستوى “القاعدة الشعبية” وهذا ما يحتّم مسؤولية كبيرة. هذان الأسبوعان القادمان ليسا سوى بداية رحلتنا للدفاع عن حقوق المرأة. وآمل أنّني سوف أحيا لأتمّم واجباتي.
